December 31, 1995

Dear Reader:

This addendum is included with this edition because I would like to respond to three questions that some readers are now stumbling over as they begin reading the contents of this book.

First, I fully anticipated the Great Tribulation would commence during 1994 or 1995 (page 1). Obviously, my expectations have not been realized. The passage of 1994 and 1995 has proven my expectation to be premature. But the delay of The Great Tribulation does not lessen the fulfillment of all that the Bible predicted. I anticipated that end-time events would begin before now, but consider the larger picture and the following statements found in this book. On page 100, I write, “There are a few time-dependent prophecies in the Bible, but 1994 is not involved in any time-dependent prophecy that I know of.” On page 101 I write: “Again I say, my understanding of coming events is not time-dependent. The future events predicted in Revelation will surely occur. When they will occur remains a matter of study.” When these statements are assembled together they simply say: “Yes, I anticipated the commencement of the Great Tribulation before now. Yes, the Bible predicts a clearly defined series of coming events. Yes, God’s Word is sure, His judgments are coming. And yes, the date of The Great Tribulation remains a secret that uniquely belongs to God.”

Second, some readers tend to be more curious about my interpretation of Revelation than the actual contents of Revelation. In other words, they measure the message in this book by my anticipations rather than by my analysis of Revelation’s contents. This thinking is too shallow. The study of apocalyptic prophecy concerns both the intended meaning of prophetic elements as well as their timing. I remain convinced that Revelation is about to be fulfilled. A person does not have to be a “rocket scientist” to see that ominous signs abound, but if you are looking for a “prophet” upon whom to bestow full confidence, then the passage of 1995 benefits all of us. God has not called me to be a prophet (page 6). Neither am I a false prophet. Rather, I am a student of the Bible sharing the things I have come to understand, even my anticipations. Is this unfair? It continues to surprise me that so many Christians overlook similar anticipations of New Testament writers without making a comment. Peter, Paul, James and John anticipated the return of Christ in their day. For example, Peter wrote: “The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray.” (1 Peter 4:7) You cannot accurately say that Peter anticipated the passage of 19 centuries when he penned these words around A.D. 60, can you?

Last, this little book was written for a very simple reason. People need to know what God is about to do. They also need to know why and they need to know now. More than a half million people have read this book (or portions thereof) and several thousand have found a deeper and more comprehensive relationship with God as a result. I have received thousands of letters from people around the world indicating that my studies have opened up the whole Bible as never before. For me, this is enough. My objective is not to convince anyone of my views. I am not seeking converts. Rather, I wish only to introduce people to the plans and purposes of God as found in His Word.

My great joy is found in sharing the good news that Jesus IS coming very soon. I know the end is just ahead. I do not know the date of Christ’s return nor have I ever claimed to. But, I know it must be close and that makes me very happy. My joy has influenced my anticipations and my joy continues to spur me on, sharing the good news. I hope you, the reader, will be able to get past page 1 to find this same joy!

With best wishes,

Larry Wilson
